Looking Out Towards the Aegean Sea

For spring break, our family fell into a ski trip to Greece. Before that, here are a few Greek facts.

Historical Marvels

Greece is steeped in history, considered the birthplace of Western civilization. Iconic ancient sites such as the Acropolis in Athens, the ancient city of Delphi, the Palace of Knossos in Crete, and the ancient theater of Epidaurus, offer glimpses into the rich heritage of ancient Greece.

Natural Wonders

Beyond its cultural and historical attractions, Greece boasts natural landscapes. From rugged cliffs to pristine beaches, travelers can immerse themselves in Greece’s natural beauty. The country also offers opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing, skiing and snorkeling.

Unique Alpine Experience

Skiing in Greece provides a unique experience due to a combination of alpine landscapes and Mediterranean climate. Skiers can enjoy breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks backed by the blue Aegean Sea.

Off-the-Beaten-Path

Greece’s ski resorts are less crowded than more well-known European skiing destinations, providing a quieter experience for visitors. Slopes are without the hustle and bustle commonly found in larger ski resorts.

Apres-Ski Delights

After a day on the slopes, travelers can indulge in Greece’s renowned hospitality and culinary delights. Many ski resorts offer cozy tavernas and traditional mountain chalets where skiers can unwind with hearty Greek cuisine, local wines, and lively music, creating a memorable apres-ski atmosphere.

John, why didn’t you go some place world class, like Austria? Seems to be similar flight. No brainer to me – you went to the Cedar Rapids, IA of Europe to ski instead of CO.

It’s like going to Eldorado HS in Albuquerque rather than Odessa High School in Texas. Is that how you would frame it?
